Gore-Tex® for Footwear
Gore-Tex® fabric is the most durable waterproof/breathable system available. Tiny pores in the Gore-Tex® membrane allow perspiration to escape while preventing water from entering. In order to meet Gore’s waterproof standards for footwear, shoes must be pass a rigorous waterproof flex test, whereby 75% of the shoe is submerged in a bath of water and repeatedly flexed. The test measures the number of flexes the shoe can withstand before leakage is detected. A minimum of 300,000 flexes (equivalent to 5 days of constant flexing) must be attained before the shoe is granted the Gore® rating for waterproofness.
